Women recruiters 'side-lined by laddish drinking club culture'

Recruitment agencies must stop their laddish drinking culture if they want to retain women in the sector.

That’s the advice given by Ann Swain. She is the Chief Executive of APSCo and a Board Member at Women in Recruitment.

    There are many recruitment agencies for whom this is a very accurate picture. The beer culture - particularly on Friday nights - rings very true. Generally such agencies have male-dominated management structures. Employees are expected to fit into the behavioural norms as well as hit their performance targets. Females and over 30s are often alienated by the laddish culture and leave as a result.
    Melvin's comment suggests he doesn't work in such a firm - although his use of the word tosh might hint that he does but doesn't think it's an issue.
