At first thought, the importance of balance between work and home life seems obvious enough. Too much work inevitably leads people to neglect their families, hobbies and health, right? Well, maybe it’s a little more complicated than that.
What we tend to forget is that every person’s version of work and life is different. For instance, a single person growing their own business from scratch will likely choose to spend far more time working each week than a parent who has made the decision to go part-time with their children in mind. Neither scenario is objectively worse or less fulfilling than the other, yet one involves many more working hours. Perhaps the time we spend at work isn’t the only factor to consider.
