Robots will take 20million manufacturing jobs

Despite widespread rhetoric that the latest wave of automation will be designed to aid humans and not take their jobs, a report from Oxford Economics has revealed that robots will displace over 20million manufacturing jobs worldwide by 2030.

The massive number represents around 8.5% of the global manufacturing workforce, or the equivalent of making 1.6 workers redundant per robot. Whilst this doesn’t necessarily spell doom for other industries, manufacturing has been touted to take the brunt of the next technological workplace advancement, which is already having an impact on worker numbers.
