Even the most senior of workers is capable of getting fired. Whilst your seniority and competence may well allow you some flexibility – maybe a few more sick days than others or upper management looking the other way whilst they take an extra-long cigarette break and come back with a takeaway coffee – but there are some actions that are simply inexcusable.

Most are obvious; stealing from the company will get you fired. Not turning up for days on end will get you fired and yes, simply not doing any work will get you fired. These are things that all workers are aware of, and it really shouldn’t be a shock when they’re called into their manager’s office and handed a letter detailing their notice period whilst the rest of the office, acutely aware of what’s going on, sits in silence and tries to act like it’s not happening.
