    While I don't think these will become commonplace with all employers I do feel that they are a legitimate option. I would have been really grateful for paid leave to settle in a new pet when I bought my current cats. For those of us who don't have children, and never will, a pet can become a surrogate child, so why wouldn't you be upset when they pass on. You wouldn't berate someone at a funeral because their husband/wife/ brother/sister died?
