The beginning of the New Year is commonly known as awards season, as a number of star-studded events plaster themselves across our television screens whilst we wait to find out which actors, actresses and directors will claim their prized awards.
So far this year the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Oscars have all taken place, where a number of celebrities have turned up on stage to share their thanks for being recognised. However, despite Ricky Gervais’ warning at the 77th Golden Globes, where he told the winners to not use their acceptance speech as an opportunity to preach their own thoughts, many high-profile individuals have ignored his advice and opted to air their views in topics such as human and animal rights and politics during these well-publicised awards ceremonies.
