'Kindness is new luxury' says boss after ditching pay

While headlines of late have been filled with reports that employers have had to lay off staff following the coronavirus pandemic, one business leader has made a very personal change in order to protect his staff and their jobs. Neil Clifford, Chief Executive of luxury shoe retailer Kurt Geiger, has revealed that he will be giving up his £500,000 a year salary until his stores are able to reopen again, reported This Is Money. Speaking about the decision, Clifford said: “It's a small sacrifice. It's the only thing I could have done. I wanted to send a message to my staff that we are all in this together. “I probably earn 30 times more than one of our employees so I am super lucky, and I didn't feel I could go on drawing my salary at a time like this.
