It’s been a little over a month since Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that the UK would enter an enforced lockdown period to combat the rampant spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You must stay at home,” Johnson told the nation in a televised press conference, a move that instated legislation meaning all ‘non-essential’ businesses would be forced to find alternative routes to maintaining operation.
Whilst around 140,000 businesses across the country have opted into the Government’s furlough scheme, ensuring that workers still receive 80% of their paycheque whilst in a period of inactivity, a massive amount of businesses have instead chosen to go remote, utilising services such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Houseparty and Zoom to communicate – the latter of which saw a 535% rise in daily traffic to the Zoom.us download page, according to an analysis from the analytics firm SimilarWeb.
