Business suffers 10,000 lay-offs on 'Black Monday'

Redundancy, the threat of which is the largest source of anxiety amongst workforces, has been a key issue throughout the pandemic due to the massive rise in cases within the UK. From March, when national lockdowns were enforced by the Government, redundancy has risen at the fastest pace since the financial crisis.

And now, according to statistics by outplacement firm Randstad RideSmart, the UK has suffered one of the most significant blows to employment since the pandemic began. Data released by the firm revealed that yesterday, Monday 7 December, over 10,000 people lost their jobs to redundancy in an event that it called ‘Black Monday’.
