Rumours have emerged that Travis Kalanick, the former CEO of Uber, is to return to the helm despite stepping down under shareholder pressure following a string of scandals.

Last week, Recode reported that Kalanick, who is still on Uber’s board, was telling people he was “Steve Jobs-ing it” refering to when he returned to Apple.

However, Uber Co-Founder and Board member, Garret Camp has quelled such rumours, writing in an email to staff that Kalanick will not be returning as CEO - LA Times reports.

In the email sent to employees, obtained by Recode he wrote: “Our CEO search is the board’s top priority. It’s time for a new chapter and the right leader for our next phase of growth. Despite rumours I’m sure you’ve seen in the news, Travis is not returning as CEO. We are committed to hiring a new world class CEO to lead Uber.”
