News that a recruitment agency is pocketing £995 a day for finding an Interim Manager for a local council has sparked a full disclosure of earnings and defense of Chief Executive earnings – Bracknell News reports.

Manjeet Gill is Interim Chief Executive of Wokingham Borough Council. She is remunerated to the tune of almost one grand a day which the recruitment agency pockets and shares with her.

If she stays for the six months it is predicted to take to find a full time Chief Executive, she will have earned £77,610. On average she works three days a week.

The Council Leader, Charlotte Haitham, defended her pay, saying: “The daily rate for this position is £995, which is in line with other chief executives leading innovative multi-million pound organisations like ours.

"It will be covered entirely by the existing Chief Executive salary budget, and we do not pay holiday, sick pay or pension contributions. Manjeet will be working an average of three days per week.

"As Interim Chief Executive, Manjeet brings a wealth of experience which will be hugely beneficial to our local authority in the short-term, while we search and appoint a long-term successor. This recruitment process has already started.”
