Equifax CEO steps down amidst cyber scandal
The credit reporting group Equifax has been on the receiving end of some media scrutiny of late, when it was revealed that the firm had suffered a major data breach.
In light of the breach, Chairman and Chief Executive Richard Smith stepped down; abdicating mere days before he was supposed to testify in Washington, US. The Financial Times reports that Smith faced heavy criticism over the scandal, mainly relating to how Equifax handled the breach and the immediate aftermath. The cyber-attack compromised 143 million US citizens’ personal information; including addresses, social security numbers and dates of birth.
