'Deal with male banter': Job ad slammed for sexist requirement

A job advert posted by RMS Recruitment on behalf of a property investment firm has been slammed for its ‘sexist’ and ‘regressive’ plea for a candidate that can ‘deal with male banter’.

The advert, for an ‘Executive Assistant & Investor Relations Associate’ for a Mayfair-based firm, required that potential candidates should have a: ‘Good personality - ability to deal with the male banter and be sociable but not distracting.’

    Any agency that has a chick-lit style fictional 'blog' on their website purportedly written by one of their candidates, says plenty about them and how they view their candidates, let alone the clients they work with. I urge you all to give this a read, and weep (https://rmsrecruitment.com/news/lucy-s-diary/201501) as the heroine receives sage advice such as:

    ‘Dear Lucy,’ (formal greeting from someone sitting ten metres away – clear sign of a telling off)

    ‘I think we discussed in your interview that you have to watch your professionalism in front of the IR team as they are predominately male and have a tendancy (sic) to get over excited by anything remotely titillating'

    This agency published the blog post back in 2015, so the recent advert isn't a one off, but just another sad indicator of how they see women in the workplace in general.
