Google has designed a set of emojis which promote equality in the workplace, representing women in high-flying careers.

There are 13 designs in total, including a scientist, an engineer, a surgeon and a graduate. The team responsible for their creation claimed that they hoped the emojis would “empower young women (the heaviest emoji users) and better reflect the pivotal roles women play in the world”, according to the BBC.

In its proposal for the new designs, reports Google as saying: “Given the fact that women are the most frequent emoji users, and that they span a wide professional spectrum not yet reflected in current emoji, we want to help address this pressing matter of equality.”

The issue of equality in the workplace is one deeply entrenched in the HR sphere. A recent report by Right Management found that Millennials don’t actually believe gender equality in the workplace will happen in the next two decades.

The report shows that millennial women are the most pessimistic as to the rate of change. They generally believe that it will take 22 years to achieve gender equality in the work force. Millennials referred to those up to the age of 34.
