Website Terms of Use

These Terms state the conditions on which EGIL permits access to its websites, digital publications and online services. Some provisions also operate as legal notices reserving EGIL’s rights. Where the law requires affirmative agreement, browsing alone is not treated as proof of consent. Account creation, content submission and paid services may require separate active acceptance.

1. Who we are and scope

These Terms apply to websites and digital services operated by Executive Grapevine International Limited, company number 02789779, whose registered office is Gate House, Fretherne Road, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6NS, United Kingdom.

They apply to visitors, registered readers and account holders. Paid advertising, lead-generation, events, subscriptions and other commercial services are also governed by the applicable booking form and service-specific terms. If those documents conflict with these Terms in relation to a paid service, the booking form and service-specific terms take priority.

2. Permitted access and acceptance

You may browse the public parts of the site subject to these Terms. If you create an account, register for an event, submit content or use a feature that asks you to accept terms, you agree to the version presented at that point.

The site is primarily intended for a professional and business audience. You must be at least 16 to create an account. If you act for an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to act for it where relevant.

3. Intellectual property and limited permission

The site and its articles, reports, research, databases, graphics, audio, video, software, branding and other materials (together, \“Content\”) are owned by or licensed to EGIL and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Rights in material supplied by employees, freelancers and contributors belong to EGIL only to the extent provided by law or assigned or licensed under the relevant agreement.

EGIL gives you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable permission to:

view the Content through the site;
download or print a reasonable number of individual items for personal use or internal business reference; and
quote reasonable extracts with clear attribution to EGIL and, where practicable, a link to the original page.

You must not systematically copy, republish, sell, syndicate or commercially exploit Content, or reproduce a substantial part of a database, without EGIL’s prior written licence. You must not remove or obscure ownership notices, watermarks or rights-management information. Nothing in these Terms restricts quotation, criticism, review, reporting, text and data analysis, or other use that applicable law expressly permits and does not allow EGIL to contract out of.

4. Automated access, scraping and artificial intelligence

Except where EGIL has given written permission, or where access is expressly enabled through an EGIL API, feed or other published facility, you must not use bots, crawlers, scrapers or similar tools to extract, reproduce, aggregate or monitor Content or site data at scale.

Normal indexing by general-purpose search engines is permitted where consistent with EGIL’s robots.txt instructions and other machine-readable controls. Those controls, together with any rights-reservation metadata, form part of EGIL’s notice concerning automated access.

Unless licensed by EGIL, Content and site data must not be used to train, fine-tune, evaluate or ground an artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system, create embeddings or synthetic datasets, or provide a competing content or analytics service. This restriction does not apply where and to the extent the use cannot lawfully be restricted. EGIL may withdraw automated-access permission or impose reasonable technical limits.

5. Acceptable use and site security

You must not:

break the law, infringe another person’s rights, or transmit unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, deceptive or harmful material;
introduce malware, probe vulnerabilities, bypass access controls, interfere with normal operation or place an unreasonable load on the site;
attempt unauthorised access to an account, system or data, or share, harvest or misuse another person’s personal data;
impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, authority or affiliation; or
use the site to send spam or carry out fraudulent or abusive activity.

EGIL may investigate suspected misuse and preserve or disclose information where reasonably necessary to protect the site, users or legal rights, or to comply with law. EGIL will not describe ordinary contractual or copyright disputes as criminal conduct unless the facts satisfy the relevant legal offence.

6. Registration and account security

You must provide accurate registration information and keep it reasonably current. Keep your credentials confidential, use appropriate security controls and tell EGIL promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access. You are responsible for activity you authorise or cause through your account, but not for activity resulting solely from EGIL’s breach or from circumstances outside your reasonable control.

EGIL may require a password reset, restrict features, suspend or close an account where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, non-payment or a material breach. Where practicable, EGIL will explain the reason and give an opportunity to remedy a remediable breach.

7. User contributions

If you submit comments, copy, images, recordings, event materials or other content, you retain any rights you hold. You give EGIL a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, format, edit, publish and promote that material for operating the relevant service and EGIL’s associated editorial and marketing activities. This licence lasts for as long as reasonably needed for those purposes and for lawful archives, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

You confirm that you have the necessary rights and permissions, that the material is accurate where presented as fact, and that it does not unlawfully disclose confidential, sensitive or personal information. EGIL may moderate, label, decline, correct or remove submissions, but is not obliged to monitor everything before publication.

8. Editorial content, sponsored material and no professional advice

Content is provided for general information, news and professional discussion. It is not legal, employment, tax, financial, medical or other professional advice. You should obtain advice appropriate to your circumstances before acting on it. Content may become outdated, and archived material reflects the position at its original publication date unless updated.

Paid, sponsored or partner content will be identified where required. Publication does not necessarily amount to EGIL’s endorsement. Editorial standards, corrections and attribution are addressed in EGIL’s Editorial Policy.

9. Third-party services, advertisements and links

The site may contain advertisements, embedded services and links to third-party websites. Third parties control their own services, terms, privacy practices and availability. EGIL is not responsible for them merely because it provides a link or carries an advertisement. You should review the relevant third party’s terms and privacy information before providing data or entering a transaction.

10. Availability and security

EGIL aims to keep the site available and secure but does not promise uninterrupted, error-free or continuously current service. EGIL may change, withdraw or restrict parts of the site for maintenance, security, editorial or business reasons. You are responsible for suitable devices, internet access, backups and protective software.

11. Privacy, cookies and accessibility

EGIL processes personal data as described in its Privacy Policy and uses cookies and similar technologies as described in its Cookie Policy. References to those policies explain processing; they do not turn browsing into consent where consent is legally required. Cookie choices must be provided through EGIL’s consent controls.

EGIL aims to provide accessible digital services. Its approach, known limitations and contact route for adjustments are set out in the Accessibility Statement. Sustainability commitments are described in the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Statement.

12. Disclaimers and liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, or any other liability that the law does not permit EGIL to exclude or limit.

For free site access, EGIL provides the site and Content on an \“as available\” basis and excludes implied warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law. EGIL is not liable to a business user for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity, goodwill, anticipated savings or data arising from free site use. Paid services are subject to the liability provisions in the applicable commercial terms.

If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights. EGIL is responsible for loss that is a foreseeable result of its breach or failure to use reasonable care, but not for loss that was not foreseeable, was caused by your breach, or relates to business activity carried on by a consumer.

13. Business-user indemnity

If you use the site in the course of business, you will reimburse EGIL for reasonable losses and third-party claims directly resulting from your deliberate or material breach of sections 3 to 7, including unlawful user content, provided that EGIL promptly notifies you of the claim, takes reasonable steps to mitigate loss and does not settle a defended claim without your reasonable consent. This section does not make you responsible for EGIL’s own negligence or breach.

14. Suspension and termination

EGIL may suspend or terminate access for a serious or repeated breach, a security risk, legal requirement or discontinuance of the service. Provisions concerning ownership, licences already needed for published or archived submissions, liability, disputes and accrued rights continue where their nature requires it.

15. Changes to these Terms

EGIL may update these Terms to reflect changes in law, technology or services. The effective date will be shown above. Material changes affecting registered users will be notified by a reasonable method and, where fresh agreement is legally required, EGIL will request it. Changes do not apply retrospectively to completed transactions.

16. General and governing law

If a provision is unlawful or unenforceable, it will be limited or removed only to the minimum extent necessary and the remainder will continue. Delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver. No person other than you and EGIL has a right to enforce these Terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.

These Terms and any non-contractual dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction for business users. Consumers may also have mandatory rights to bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom or other country in which they live.
